Shall I see you, I wonder, upon the throne of glory,

Like the full moon amid its radiant haloes?

There, then, I shall unfold some of your praises, which

The Qur’an’s chapters, recited in measured cadence, have attested.

And I turn my eye, gazing upon your eminence,

So from it I stitch into praise what it has cut to shape.

O son of the Prophet—and that is the noblest rank,

Which was sent down from God, the All-Watchful.

Indeed, even if the tributes in your praise attain

Their utmost bounds in fitting measure, I deem them mere summaries.
