للَّهto God (in admiration) لِيلتناour night إِذwhen صاحِبايَmy two companions بهاin it
للَّه لِيلتنا إِذ صاحِبايَ بها
بدرٌa full moon وبدرٌand a full moon سماويٌّheavenly وأرضيُّand earthly
بدرٌ وبدرٌ سماويٌّ وأرضيُّ
How wondrous our night, when my two companions there
Our night is for God when my companions in it
Were a full moon and a full moon—one heavenly, one earthly;
Are a heavenly full moon and an earthly full moon
إِذِwhen الهَوَىlove وَالهواءand the air الطَّلْقُopen مُعتَدِلٌtemperate
إِذِ الهَوَى وَالهواء الطَّلْقُ مُعتَدِلٌ
هذاthis one وهذاand this one ربيعيٌّspringlike طبيعيُّnatural
هذا وهذا ربيعيٌّ طبيعيُّ
When love and the open air were temperate,
When passion and open air are well balanced -
The one springlike, the other natural.
This one and that one are my natural springtime
