ومُضْعَفُand one languid الطَّرْفِin gaze حيّانيgreeted me بمُضْعَفَةٍwith a double-petaled rose
ومُضْعَفُ الطَّرْفِ حيّاني بمُضْعَفَةٍ
كأنّماas though قُطِفَتْit had been plucked منfrom خدّthe cheek of مُهْدِيهاits giver
كأنّما قُطِفَتْ من خدّ مُهْدِيها
And one with languid eyes greeted me with a double-petaled rose,
With eyes languid through passion's ecstasy
As though it had been plucked from its giver’s cheek.
As if culled from the cheek of her beloved
رَقَّتit was delicate فَراقَتand it delighted فَأَحْيَتْand it revived قَلبَthe heart of ناشِقِهاone who breathed its scent
رَقَّت فَراقَت فَأَحْيَتْ قَلبَ ناشِقِها
كَأَنَّas though عَبْقَةَthe fragrance of فِيهِhis mouth أُفْرِغَتْhad been poured فيهاinto it
كَأَنَّ عَبْقَةَ فِيهِ أُفْرِغَتْ فيها
Delicate, it delighted and revived the heart of whoever breathed its scent,
So fragile, transparent, giving life to the heart of her admirer
As though the fragrance of his mouth had been poured into it.
As though perfume itself were poured into her
