I was told that Abū Riyāḍ has comprehended
knowledge of languages and excelled in what he claims.
The knowledge of languages, exceeding what is claimed
منwho مخبرىone who informs me عنهabout him فانىfor I سائلam asking
من مخبرى عنه فانى سائل
منwho كانhad حنكهrubbed his palate بأيرwith the penis of الاصمعىal-Asma‘i
من كان حنكه بأير الاصمعى
Who can tell me about him? For I ask:
From those who informed me of him, so I ask
Who had rubbed his palate with al-Asma‘i’s penis?
Who was more eloquent than Al-Aṣmaʿī?
