How brazen al-Mutanabbi is
How shameless al-Mutanabbi was
in what he recounted and claimed!
In what he recounted and claimed
أبيحhe was granted مالاwealth عظيماimmense
أبيح مالا عظيما
حتىuntil اباحhe made available قفاهhis nape
حتى اباح قفاه
He was granted immense wealth,
He made lawful what was profoundly illicit
until he offered up his nape.
Even permitting his rear end
ياO سائلىyou who ask me عنabout غناهhis wealth
يا سائلى عن غناه
منfrom ذاكthat كانwas غناهhis wealth
من ذاك كان غناه
O you who ask me about his wealth,
O you who ask of his singing
his wealth came from that.
Who was it that sang his praises?
انif كانwere ذاكthat man نبياًa prophet
ان كان ذاك نبياً
فالجاثليقthen the Catholicos الهa god
فالجاثليق اله
If that man were a prophet,
If he was a prophet
then the Catholicos would be a god.
