وبقيت فى خلف بلا اكناف

Gone are those in whose shelter one could live.

Those with whom life was lived are gone

And I am left among successors who offer no shelter.

And I remain behind, unprotected,

بطيالس وقلانس محشوة

يتعاشرون بقلة الانصاف

In cloaks and stuffed caps,

With hypocrites and ingrates

They deal with one another with little fairness.

Who lack all generosity,

ما شئت من حال وفره مراكب

ما شئت من حال وفره مراكب

أبواب دورهم بلا أجواف

أبواب دورهم بلا أجواف

All the status and fine mounts you could wish for—

However much I wish for a condition to sail away

Their houses have doorways but no interiors.

The doors of their homes are hollow.
