وَلَقَدand indeed رَأَيتُI saw مَخيلةًa cloud promising rain فَتَبِعتُهاso I followed it
مَطَرَتit rained عَليَّupon me بحاصِبٍwith wind-driven stones وَتُرابِand dust
Indeed, I saw a cloud promising rain, and followed it.
I saw a vision and pursued it
It showered me with wind-driven stones and dust.
It rained on me with pebbles and dust
إِنّيindeed I لأكرَهُcertainly dread أَنthat تَجىءَshould come مَنيَّتيmy death
حَتّىuntil أَعيظَI anger سوادَةَSawadah بنِson of كِلابِKilab
Indeed, I dread that my death should come
I hate that my death should come
Before I have angered Sawadah son of Kilab:
Before I can avenge Suwadah ibn Kilab
أَنّيthat I أُتيحَwas destined لَهاfor it وَكانَand he was بِمَعزِلٍapart
وَلكلِّand for every أَمرٍevent واقِعٍthat occurs أَسبابُcauses
That I should be given over to it, while he remained apart.
I was left exposed to it though secluded
And every event that comes to pass has its causes.
For everything destined has causes
