إن جزت على الحمى فقف بالأثلات
O traveler crossing the expanses of the deserts,
O wanderer crossing the deserts’ breadth
If you pass by the protected grounds, halt by the tamarisk trees,
If you pass the abandoned campsites then pause a while
وابكِand weep الدمنthe camp ruins الخواليempty منهمof them فعسىso perhaps
وابكِ الدمن الخوالي منهم فعسى
ترويyou water عرصاتهاtheir courtyards بصوبwith a downpour of العبراتthe tears
تروي عرصاتها بصوب العبرات
And weep over the camp ruins, bereft of them; perhaps
And weep for the deserted dwellings, perhaps
You will water their courtyards with a downpour of tears.
Your tears may water their deserted floors
