كلوميwounds I inflict كأنas though كلبa dog يهارشfights with أكلباdogs
And indeed, my companion at the water bears no trace upon his face
Of wounds from me, as though a dog were fighting other dogs.
ولاnor أقسمI divide الأعطانthe camels’ resting grounds by water بينيbetween me وبينهand between him
ولاnor أتوقاهI shun him ولوeven if كانhe were مجرباhaving mangy camels
Nor do I divide the camels’ resting grounds by the water between myself and him.
Nor do I shun him, even if his camels have mange.
أقولI say لهto him أوردbring camels to water لكfor you الماءthe water قبلناbefore us

I say to him: water your camels; the water is yours before ours.
And use my bucket-rope if a rope should snap.

Together, you will find no rivalry between us
Nor hatred, until he departs and goes away.

And his is the better of my two cloaks—the one laid aside and the one
I wear; I do not seek the new, finely finished one.
