Say to the eleventh zodiac sign, father of the
Tell the eleventh constellation, O noble father,
Tenth among them, lord of the second conjunction:
The tenth of them is the Lord of the second Quran.
ياO ابنson of شكرShukr أنthat ضلةfolly لزمانfor an age
يا ابن شكر أن ضلة لزمان
صرتyou have become فيهin it تدعيare called منamong الأعيانthe notables
صرت فيه تدعي من الأعيان
O Ibn Shukr, what folly for an age
O son of gratitude, the error of an era
In which you have come to be called one of the notables!
In which you claim to be eminent.
ليسis not طبعيmy nature ذمreviling الزمانthe times ولكنand yet
ليس طبعي ذم الزمان ولكن
أنتyou أغريتنيyou incited me بذمto revile الزمانthe times
أنت أغريتني بذم الزمان
It is not my nature to revile the times, but
It is not my nature to blame the times, but
You have incited me to revile the times.
You have provoked me to blame the times.
