هنِّئت في اليوم المَطِيرِ

هنِّئت في اليوم المَطِيرِ

بالرّاح والعيش النَّضيرِ

بالرّاح والعيش النَّضيرِ

May you be blessed on this rainy day

with wine and a flourishing life,

ومُنحت بالعزّ الَّذي

ومُنحت بالعزّ الَّذي

يُعدي على صَرْف الدُّهورِ

يُعدي على صَرْف الدُّهورِ

and granted the might that

helps you withstand the vicissitudes of the ages.

فاشرَبْ كُؤوساً كالنُّجو

فاشرَبْ كُؤوساً كالنُّجو

م تُديرُها أيدي البدورِ

م تُديرُها أيدي البدورِ

So drink cups like the stars,

passed round by the hands of full moons,

من كلّ أهيفَ فاترِ ال

من كلّ أهيفَ فاترِ ال

أَلْحاظِ كالظَّبي الغَرِيرِ

أَلْحاظِ كالظَّبي الغَرِيرِ

from every slender one with languid

glances, like a guileless gazelle,

يحكي الظَّلامَ بشَعره

يحكي الظَّلامَ بشَعره

والصُّبحَ بالوجه المُنيرِ

والصُّبحَ بالوجه المُنيرِ

who mirrors the darkness with his hair

and the dawn with his radiant face.

فانعَمْ به متيقّنا

فانعَمْ به متيقّنا

إِحمادَ عاقبةِ الأمورِ

إِحمادَ عاقبةِ الأمورِ

So take delight in him, certain

of a praiseworthy outcome to affairs.

فكبيرُ عفوِ الرَّبّ مَوْ

فكبيرُ عفوِ الرَّبّ مَوْ

قُوفٌ على الذَّنْب الكبيرِ

قُوفٌ على الذَّنْب الكبيرِ

For the Lord's great forgiveness is

contingent upon great sin.

واسلَمْ على طول الزَّما

واسلَمْ على طول الزَّما

ن لكلّ ذي أمل قصيرِ

ن لكلّ ذي أمل قصيرِ

And remain safe throughout time,

for everyone whose hope is short,

تُفني زمانَك كلَّه

تُفني زمانَك كلَّه

بالعزم منك وبالسُّرورِ

بالعزم منك وبالسُّرورِ

spending all your time

with your resolve and with delight,

ما بين حفظٍ للثُّغو

ما بين حفظٍ للثُّغو

رِ وبين رَشْفٍ للثُّغورِ

رِ وبين رَشْفٍ للثُّغورِ

between guarding the frontiers

and sipping from lips.
