لم تُبقِ في الكُفّارِ الاّ هارباً

يحكي فخلناهُ بذكركَ يَكلفُ

You left none among the unbelievers but a fugitive,

None remain among the infidels except a fugitive

Who talks, so we thought him enamored of mentioning you.

Who mourns when we leave him to speak of you

فكأنّما في قلبهِ من ذُعرِهِ

فكأنّما في قلبهِ من ذُعرِهِ

وخزّ كما نَقبَ الأديمَ المخصفُ

وخزّ كما نَقبَ الأديمَ المخصفُ

So it is as though, in his heart, from his terror,

As if in his heart from his panic

There were a pricking, as an awl pierces leather.

Is a piercing like a needle puncturing leather
