كأنّهُ جَولقةٌ في التُّراب
Look at the porcupine, how it has curled up,
Look how the grey one coils,
as though it were a sack in the dust.
As if a mere insect in the dust,
كأنّماas though شاهَدit witnessed حرباًa war ففيfor in
كأنّما شاهَد حرباً ففي

أوصالهِ دسكرةُ من حراب
As though it had witnessed a war, for in
As if he had witnessed war, so in
its limbs is a village of spears.
His frame quivers from the swords.
