يُخالفُhe violates العهدَthe covenant فيin تصرُّفِهِhis conduct
يُخالفُ العهدَ في تصرُّفِهِ
وَهوَand he علىupon خَلقِهِhis form وإنand even if صَغراhe was small
وَهوَ على خَلقِهِ وإن صَغرا
He breaks the covenant in his conduct,
He breaks his word by his behavior
And remains as he was made, though small.
Though he is young by nature
كانّهas though he فيin يَدَa hand بمحركهِwith his mover
كانّه في يَدَ بمحركهِ
ينشُرُhe saws قَلبيmy heart بهِwith it وماand not شَعَراhe realized
ينشُرُ قَلبي بهِ وما شَعَرا
As though, in a hand, with what moves him,
As if he were in my hands moving me
He saws through my heart with it, unaware.
And spreading my heart without realizing
كأنّهas though he داودَDavid حينَwhen يُوقِظُهhe awakens it
كأنّه داودَ حينَ يُوقِظُه
يقرأُhe reads فيهِin it الزّبورَthe Psalms والسُّوراand the surahs
يقرأُ فيهِ الزّبورَ والسُّورا
As though he were David when he awakens it,
As if he were David when he recites
Reading in it the Psalms and the surahs.
