Even the birds crowded together around him,
The birds gathered around him,
a place to glean food, or a watering place for a circling bird.
A place to land or hovering roses,
تبيتُspend the night التيwhich لمhave not تجعلِmade الطّلحَthe acacias وكرَهاtheir nest

Those that have not made the acacias their nest spend the night
Those who did not make the acacias their nest
exhausted among the motionless thoroughbreds.
Hover between the waving branches,
وتلكَand those التيwhich أرزاقهاtheir sustenance فيin حمايةٍprotection

مُحَلّقةٌsoaring كالعارضِlike a rain cloud المتراكمِpiled up
And those whose sustenance is under protection
And those whose livelihood is in protection
soar like a piled-up rain cloud.
Circling like accumulated clouds,

When they screen the midmorning sun, they form a canopy
When the sun of morning appears they are shade
over the heads of the black-turbaned horsemen.
On the peaks of horsemen, black turbans,

When the sun finds a gap amid the feathers, she lets through
If she found a hole in the feathers she entered
a slender ray, like sparks struck by hoof-tips.
A faint ray like the flash of unsheathed swords,

She peered out from her dwelling, as though she were
She looked out from her house as if
stealing the army's secret before the battles.
She whispers the army's secret before battles,
تكافؤاrepaid one another فأعطَوهاso they gave them منfrom اللّحمِthe flesh قوتَهاtheir sustenance

They exchanged favors: the horsemen gave the birds flesh for food,
They matched each other and gave her meat for her livelihood
and the birds gave them shade in the heat of scorching winds.
And she gave them shade in the heat of the turbans.
