دَ وكِل أمرَهُ إلى استحسانِه
Do not blame a lovesick wanderer who has found passion sweet;
Do not blame a wanderer who found a face fair,
and leave his affairs to his own liking.
And left all his affairs to the judgement thereof,

For I am the obedient, yearning one, in wonder
For I am one obedient, by it made eager,
at him—that he should be startled in youthful bloom.
That in the prime of life it be observed,

He passed by me, strutting, nearly driven by admiration
A notion passed me, it almost drove me frantic,
of himself to take fright in his youthful bloom.
That in the prime of life it be observed.

In a throng, as if, while he was therein,

He complains of languor from the sluggishness of walking,
Complaining of languor from sloth of the eyelids,

Yet complaining not thereof from his eyelids,

I watched it as the darkness parted to reveal it,
I sensed him, while the gloom was disclosing him,
like a Zanj man's smile revealing his teeth.
Like the disclosure of the black man's teeth.
