لقا تأوَهت في ظلمانِه شابا
As though my night, with the return of its stars,
Had grown gray when [reading uncertain] I groaned in its darkness.

فكَرتُ فكر والبلوى لمن خابا
As though my night were my partner in love, so whenever
I brooded, it brooded—and suffering is for the disappointed.

As though my night, with my dawn veiled within it,
Were a jealous man who shut a door upon my beloved.
