And the earth is fragrant in its reaches, fresh and tender,

Green in a radiant new robe.

And the water is driven toward you by channels,

Of many kinds, from soft ground and solid rock.

Clear as crystal, and its taste

Is honey; so partake of what is pleasant and cool.

It filled the gullies, and they surged forward, as though

    Onslaughts of spiteful snakes.

They verge on snoring, and sometimes

They roar, so you hear in them the roar of lions.

And they stir up the floating pebbles, as though they

Had put a dullard’s mind in charge of the hours.
