Arrows assailed them in turn, striking with their broad heads,
Arrows from their quivers were loosed around them,
Like bees, or like bursts of clamorous rain.
Like bees in flight, or snakes slithering nimble and lithe.

In each grieving shaft is a death-cry it draws out
Each arrow, as it flew, sang its own keen song -
From the bowstring’s ringing, echoing the ringing of its counterpart.
A song that echoed the twang of the bow that gave it life.
