وانِdrunkard (continuation) حَيرانَbewildered بالمدامِby the wine الشّمولِthe heady wine
And in her stirring she drew near with the gait of a drunkard,
The breeze softly caressed the swaying branches,
bewildered by the heady wine.
While I stood bewildered by the all-encompassing wine.

شقُlover (continuation) ذُلاًّin abasement إلىto الحبيبِthe beloved المًطولِthe one who delays
She clung to the earth, as a lover submits
I clung to the ground like the suppliant does,
in abasement to the beloved who keeps him waiting.
Crawling humbly to the beloved's embrace.

قاlove (continuation) فصاراso the two became للضمِّfor embracing والتّقبيلِand kissing
And indeed I thought there was love between them,
I imagined that between them lived passion,
so the two turned to embracing and kissing.
Becoming an object of holding and kissing.

And she eluded the keen-witted among humankind, until
I disappeared from people's hearts until
they likened her, in her slightness, to emaciation.
They compared me to something slender and frail.
