وأغضَفَand a drooping-eared hound يلغيdisregards أنفَهُhis nose فكانّماand so, as though
وأغضَفَ يلغي أنفَهُ فكانّما
يقُودguides بهhim along نورٌa light منfrom الوحيrevelation نَيَّرُradiant
يقُود به نورٌ من الوحي نَيَّرُ
And a drooping-eared hound disregards his nose, as though
As if his delicate nose were leading,
a radiant light from revelation were guiding him.
A light of divine inspiration shining;
إِذاwhen ألهَبتُهinflames him شهوةُthe desire الصَّيدِthe hunt طامعاًeager
إِذا ألهَبتُه شهوةُ الصَّيدِ طامعاً
رأيتَyou see عقيمَbarren الرّيحِthe wind عنهُof him تُقَصّرُfalls short
رأيتَ عقيمَ الرّيحِ عنهُ تُقَصّرُ
When the desire to hunt inflames him, eager for prey,
When hunting lust inflames his desire,
you see the barren wind fall short of him.
You'll see the wind's rage before him diminish.
