علىupon الأمعزِthe stony ground العاريthe bare برودٌstriped robes تُنَشَّرُare spread out
على الأمعزِ العاري برودٌ تُنَشَّرُ
And a deserted expanse with hills in succession—its mirage
The mirage is empty though standards advance,
Upon the bare, stony ground is like striped robes spread out.
A cool breeze blows on the bare rocky hill,
كأنّas though روابيهِits hillocks إذاwhen اتُزرتare girded بهِwith it
كأنّ روابيهِ إذا اتُزرت بهِ

رجالٌ ببيضِ الرّيطِ ظهراً تأزّروا
As though its hillocks, when wrapped in it,
As though when its expanses are clothed
Were men who at noon had girded themselves with white cloths.
Men in white loincloths wrap around their backs.
