فتىًa youth باردُcold الأشعارthe verses يفظعُis appalling لفظُهhis wording
فتىً باردُ الأشعار يفظعُ لفظُه
بهاin them وهوand he is منحوسُill-omened الجبينِthe brow شتيمُugly
بها وهو منحوسُ الجبينِ شتيمُ
A youth whose verses are cold, whose wording is appalling
A youth with cold poetry, his words are harsh
in them; he is ill-omened of brow and ugly.
With it, while he is inauspicious of brow, abusive
يُقرِّبُbrings close وجهاًa face منكًَto you فيin خَلقِthe shape of قِربَةٍa waterskin
يُقرِّبُ وجهاً منكًَ في خَلقِ قِربَةٍ
كأنّas though انهدالthe drooping of الأنفthe nose منهُof his قَدومُan adze
كأنّ انهدال الأنف منهُ قَدومُ
He brings a face close to you, shaped like a waterskin,
He brings a face near you in the manner of intimacy
as though his drooping nose were an adze.
As if the lowering of his nose towards you is an arrival
