محمدُ هل جوادُكَ في الجيَّادِ
إِذاwhen حصَلتyou take stock إلاّexcept كالفُؤادِlike the heart
إِذا حصَلت إلاّ كالفُؤادِ
Muhammad, is your steed among the steeds,
Muhammad, is your steed among the steeds
when you take stock, anything but like the heart?
When you gain it, nothing like the heart
كأنَّas though ضلوعهُits ribs ممّاbecause of how تعرّتthey became bare
كأنَّ ضلوعهُ ممّا تعرّت
قِسىِّbows وُترتwere strung يومَon the day of الجلادِcombat
قِسىِّ وُترت يومَ الجلادِ
As though its ribs, from being laid bare,
As if its ribs from what was bared
were bows strung on the day of combat.
Became tough bowstrings on the day of battle
