وماand not نَظَرتْlooked مُقْلَتيmy eye مُذْsince طَغَتْit grew unruly
وما نَظَرتْ مُقْلَتي مُذْ طَغَتْ
إلاَّexcept وَشَاَهَدَكَand beheld you النَّاظِرُthe pupil of the eye
إلاَّ وَشَاَهَدَكَ النَّاظِرُ
And never has my eye gazed, since it grew unruly,
Since my eyes overflowed with tears
without its pupil beholding you.
They have seen none but you
ولاnor هَجَعَتْit slept قَطٌّever إلاَّexcept رَأتْكَit saw you
ولا هَجَعَتْ قَطٌّ إلاَّ رَأتْكَ
كَأَنَّكas though you فِيْin جَفْنِهاits eyelid حَاضِرُpresent
كَأَنَّك فِيْ جَفْنِها حَاضِرُ
Nor has it ever slept without seeing you,
And whenever my eyelids close
as though you were present in its eyelid.
It's as if you're right before them
