من سَكرة لستَ منها صلحيَ الفِكَرِ
O you who long for what has eluded you, awake
O you who wish for what is beyond reach
from a stupor in which your thoughts are not clear.
An intoxication you cannot comprehend

بالصَفو طَوراً ومَمزوجاً مع الكَدِر
And take from time what it has given you, content
Take from fate what it gives you, content

His life is embittered who is never satisfied
Life is bitter for those never satisfied
with any condition, and is found only with his gaze lifted high.
Who look with greedy eyes, always desiring more

And how could you find him grateful to his companion—
How can you find gratitude in him
one who is forever angry with fate?
Who is ever angry with fate's decree
