شرفتُ بيحيى فلم أُجملِ

وفتُّ بفضلي فلم أفضل

وفتُّ بفضلي فلم أفضل

I gained honor through Yahya, so I did not speak in brief.

I was ennobled by Yahya, yet I was not made more beautiful,

And through my merit I excelled, so I was not surpassed.

And I excelled through my own merit, yet I was not made more excellent.

وأحرقتُ بالذّلِّ قلبَ العدو

وأحرقتُ بالذّلِّ قلبَ العدو

وأقررتُ بالعزِّ عينَ الولي

وأقررتُ بالعزِّ عينَ الولي

And with humiliation I burned the enemy’s heart.

I burned the heart of the enemy with humiliation,

And with honor I gladdened the ally’s eye.

And I delighted the eye of the guardian with might.

سَمَت همتي بي حتى اعتلى

سَمَت همتي بي حتى اعتلى

على النجمِ قدريَ المعتلي

على النجمِ قدريَ المعتلي

My aspiration bore me aloft until there rose

My ambition carried me high until

above the star my exalted rank.

My destiny ascended above the stars.

إمامٌ تُميّزُ في وجههِ

إمامٌ تُميّزُ في وجههِ

صفاتِ النبيِّ وسيما عليِّ

صفاتِ النبيِّ وسيما عليِّ

An imam in whose face you discern

A leader whose face shows

the Prophet’s traits and Ali’s mien.

The attributes of the Prophet, especially Ali.
