    With every far-ranging army,

The way grows narrow at its passage.

Heavy of tread, led by a black steed,

    Yet gray with sword-edges.

As though the iron upon its back

Were silver gilded by the morning sun.

    Waters whose quivering swell rippled,

And above them, algae serves as battle-dust.

    إذا جاءه الضيفُ لا يُحجبُ

    There a chamberlain rains down bounty;

When a guest comes to him, he is not barred.

The horses sway their flanks there

When the procession passes over it.

His cup bestowed joy upon them there,

So they kept drinking out of love for him.

And they said, “Would it be right if I

Saw the like of this and did not rejoice?”
