شَدوَ القِيانِ عزفن بالأعوادِ
A dove sings among the arak’s boughs—
A dove sings on the twigs of the arak tree,
the song of singing-girls playing upon lutes.
Like singing girls playing upon lutes.

مهتزة الأعطاف والأجياد
The breeze bent its bough, and she swayed,
The breeze bent its bough, and they swayed,
her flanks and necks aquiver.
Their flanks and necks trembling.

This one bids that one farewell—the farewell of one
This one bids that one farewell, like one
who knows from her that separation is near.
Who knows that parting from her is near.
واستعبرتand wept لفراقهِat its parting عينُthe eye of النَّدىthe dew
واستعبرت لفراقهِ عينُ النَّدى

so the waistcloth of her swaying bough was soaked.
So the skirt of her swaying bough grew wet.
