تذكَّرتُ مَن يَبكي عليَّ مُداومًا

تذكَّرتُ مَن يَبكي عليَّ مُداومًا

فلم أُلفِ إلا العلمَ بالدِّينِ والخبَرْ

فلم أُلفِ إلا العلمَ بالدِّينِ والخبَرْ

I thought of who would weep for me unceasingly,

But found none except knowledge of religion and transmitted reports:

علومُ كتابِ اللهِ والسننُ التي

علومُ كتابِ اللهِ والسننُ التي

أتَت عن رسولِ الله معْ صحَّةِ الأثَرْ

أتَت عن رسولِ الله معْ صحَّةِ الأثَرْ

The sciences of God's Book, and the traditions that

Came from God's Messenger with sound transmission;

وعلمُ الأُلى مِن ناقديهِ وعلمُ ما

وعلمُ الأُلى مِن ناقديهِ وعلمُ ما

له اختلَفوا في العلمِ بالرأيِ والنظَر

له اختلَفوا في العلمِ بالرأيِ والنظَر

And knowledge of those who critically assessed it, and knowledge of why

They differed in scholarship through reasoned opinion and reflection.
