فقدfor indeed بكرcame early النعيthe news of death بمنof the one whom هويتI loved
Ah, O eye, weep; do not grow weary.
Oh eyes, weep, do not grow weary
For news came early of the death of the one I loved.
For early did the wailing begin for the one I loved
وقدand indeed بكرcame early النعيthe news of death بخيرof the finest شخصperson
رسولMessenger of اللهGod حقاtruly ماas long as حييتI live
And news came early of the death of the finest person—
And early did the wailing begin for the best of people
God’s Messenger, truly, for as long as I live.
The Messenger of God truly, for as long as I lived
ولوand if عشناwe lived ونحنand we نراكsee you فيناamong us
وأمرand the decree of اللهGod يتركwere set aside ماnot بكيتI wept
And had we lived, seeing you among us,
If only we had lived while seeing you among us
and had God’s decree been set aside, I would not have wept.
Yet God's command leaves what I wept over
فقدfor indeed بكرcame early النعيthe news of death بذاكof that one عمداdeliberately
فقدfor indeed عظمتwas great مصيبةthe calamity منthe one whom نعيتI mourned
For news came early of that one’s death, deliberately.
For early did the wailing begin for him with purpose
For great is the loss of the one whose death I mourned.
For grievous was the misfortune of the one I wailed over
وقدand indeed عظمتwas great مصيبتهthe calamity of losing him وجلتand was grievous
وكلand every الجهدhardship بعدكafter you قدindeed لقيتI encountered
And the calamity of losing him is great and grievous.
And grievous did his misfortune become and momentous
And after your loss, I have met with every hardship.
And every effort after you has met hardship

To the Lord of creation we complain of that.
To the Lord of the land that one we complain to
For God knows what I have done.
For God knows what I came with
أفاطمO Fatimah إنهindeed it قدindeed هدshattered ركنيmy pillar

وقدand indeed عظمتwas great مصيبةthe calamity منthe one whom رزيتI was bereaved of
O Fatimah, it has indeed shattered my pillar.
Oh Fatima, he has toppled my pillar
And great is the loss of the one of whom I was bereaved.
And grievous did the misfortune become of the one I was pleased with
