    Rise high, O shining moon.

Look closely: do you see Hujr traveling?

He travels to Muawiya ibn Harb,

So he may kill him, as the emir claimed.

The tyrants grew haughty after Hujr,

And al-Khawarnaq and al-Sadir became pleasant to them.

And the lands became barren for them,

As though no rain-bearing lightning had revived them.

Ah, if only Hujr had died a natural death,

And not been slaughtered as a camel is slaughtered.

I fear for you what killed Adi,

And an old man in Damascus who roars.

    لَه مِن شرّ أمَّته وزيرُ

    He deems it his duty to kill the virtuous;

He has a minister from the worst of his people.

For if he perishes, every leader of a people

Passes from this world to death.
