Indeed, at al-Bayda, beside the protected pasture, there died
In the white city by the side of the fever,
A young man who was an adornment to the stars and shooting stars.
Died a youth who was the adornment of stars and comets,
يَلوذُseeks refuge بهِwith him الجانيthe wrongdoer مَخافةَfor fear of ماwhat جنىhe committed
كَماjust as لاذتِshe sought refuge العصماءُthe white-footed ibex بالشاهقon the lofty peak الصعبِinaccessible
The wrongdoer seeks refuge with him, fearing what he has done,
To him the offender would flee, fearing his own crime,
As the white-footed ibex sought refuge on the lofty, inaccessible peak.
As chaste women take refuge with an unassailable strong man,
تظلّremain بناتdaughters العمِّthe paternal uncle والخالand the maternal uncle حولهُaround him
صَواديَthirsty لاnot يروينَthey quench their thirst بالباردwith cool water العذبِsweet
The daughters of his paternal and maternal uncles remain around him,
Around him always lingered the daughters of his paternal and maternal uncles,
Thirsty, their thirst unquenched by cool, sweet water.
Thirsty huntresses no cool sweet water could quench.
