ألاAh! أرىI see ماءthe water of الصبحal-Subh شافياًhealing
نفوساًsouls إلىtoward أمواهthe waters of بقعاءBaq‘a نزعاًyearning
Behold, I find the water of al-Ṣubḥ able to heal
Ah, I see the water of al-Subh healing
souls drawn in longing to Baqʿāʾ’s watering places.
souls yearning for the waters of Baq‘a.
فمنso whoever جاءcame منfrom ماءthe water of الشبالal-Shibal بشربةٍwith a draught
فإنthen indeed لهfor him منof ماءthe water of لينةLinah أربعاًfour
Whoever brings a draught from the water of al-Shibāl
Whoever brings a draught of al-Shibal’s water
shall have four from the water of Līna.
shall have four draughts of Linah’s water.
وقدand indeed زادنيincreased my وجداًlonging ببقعاءfor Baq‘a أنناthat we
رأيناwe saw مطاياناour mounts بلينةat Linah ظلعاًlimping
And this has deepened my longing for Baqʿāʾ: that
And my longing for Baq‘a grew greater because we
at Līna we saw our riding beasts go lame.
saw our mounts limping at Linah.
