دعيناwe were called upon لأضيافٍfor guests وَقَدand already نَزلواthey alighted بِناwith us
دعينا لأضيافٍ وَقَد نَزلوا بِنا
رفيدةُRufaydah والقينُand al-Qayn بنson of حبسHabs وعامرُand Amir
رفيدةُ والقينُ بن حبس وعامرُ
We were called upon for guests who had already come to stay with us—
Let us welcome the guests who have descended upon us
Rufaydah, al-Qayn son of Habs, and Amir.
Rafida and Al-Qain ibn Habes and Aamer
وَقَدand already نَزلتencamped بهراءُBahra خلفbehind بيوتناour houses
وَقَد نَزلت بهراءُ خلف بيوتنا
كَماjust as نَزَلتalighted تَبغيseeking قراناour hospitality الأساورُthe Asawir (cavalrymen)
كَما نَزَلت تَبغي قرانا الأساورُ
And Bahra had encamped behind our houses,
And Bahraa has descended behind our homes
just as the Asawir came seeking our hospitality.
As necklaces and bracelets descended upon us
فَماso not أنemphatic particle لَبِثناwe delayed ساعةًan hour بقراهمُin feeding them
فَما أن لَبِثنا ساعةً بقراهمُ
وَقدand indeed يحمدis praised الرفدَthe generosity السريعُswift المبادرُprompt
وَقد يحمد الرفدَ السريعُ المبادرُ
So we did not delay even an hour in feeding them;
We had barely stayed an hour in their towns
and swift, prompt generosity is indeed praised.
