She says, beating her breast with her right hand:
She said as she struck her chest with her right hand,
Is this my husband, the laggard at the mill?
"Is this how you neglect your duties, O Ali?"

So I said to her: Do not be surprised; look closely at
So I said to her, "Do not wonder and blame me,
my deeds when the horsemen close in on me.
For my actions, when knights turn to me."

Do I not drive back my foe as he falls headlong into his own blood,
"Do I not repel the attack when the warrior charges?
with a rigid, double-edged spearhead in him?
With his two sharp cutting blades unsheathed?

And I bear the heavy burden and milk
Do I not endure the heavy crisis and advance,
the teats of death when the daring fighter flees.
Through the terrors of death when warriors take flight?

And I entertain cares that visit by night with firm resolve,
Do I not curb the invading sorrows with a belt,
when misgivings about those night visitors multiply.
When doubts increase for the invaders?

When others shrink back, I plunge into a maelstrom
When nations attack I plunge into the fray,
whose fury the unyielding spear-fighter fears.
My ardour makes even the fierce warrior fear.

By your noble father's life, I am indeed a servant
By the life of your father I swear I am but a servant,
to my guest; and if I mount, I am truly a horseman.
To my guests, though when I ride 'tis as a knight.

And indeed I buy praise, seeking its profit,
And though I praise God seeking his rewards,
and leave my adversary disgraced and wretched.
I leave my herd straying while I remain wretched."
