She is the luxuriant garden, to eye and ear;
She is the singing garden that delights the ear and heart
for my eye has never seen her like, nor has my ear heard it.
Never did my eyes behold, nor my ears hear

فتوصل من بشر بها اللحن باللحن
She delights the birds of the gardens with her appearance,
A scene more pleasing to the birds of the gardens
so, out of joy in her, they join melody to melody.
Where melody is linked to melody through song

She looks out over the trees, for she is a queen;
I looked upon the trees - she is their queen
so most of their branches sing her praise.
For this, most of their branches bow to her

She has the breast of a peacock that stretches high, spreading
She has the chest of a peacock, spreading
its two wings, like silver, without paint.
Its wings with the likes of supple branches

And the gardens have encircled her, just as
The gardens gaze at her as eyes
the eyelid's lashes circle the eyes of the oryx.

The rose bud kisses its twin
and branch entwines with supple branch within her.
And the tender branch embraces the branch

The river is her necklace, and the flowers her adornment;
The river is her necklace, and ponds her jewelry
thus, in beauty, she has come to surpass beauty itself.
Thus, in beauty she surpasses beauty itself

We entered, and there visited the Garden of Eternity;
We entered and visited the eternal heaven through her
and she took dawn's place amid the pitch-black gloom.
And it was as dawn breaking the darkness of night

أريد بنا لما خرجنا إلى السجن
We left, though we were told, 'Stay!'—and it was as though
We left, though we were told to stay, as though
we were meant, as we left, to be sent to prison.
Departing her meant for us the prison

May the palaces built around the Tigris be her ransom,
Palaces around the Tigris were sacrificed for her
though their soil neither nourishes nor satisfies.
Though their riches and bounty were never diminished

وذي أبداً تجلو لنا الثمر المجني
For in those, fruits are displayed to be admired,
For through her fruits and harvests manifest
while this one always presents us with harvested fruit.
And she forever yields produce and plenty
