    O Lord, send blessings upon the accepted intercessor,

    Muhammad, the Chosen One, the forbearing,

    As long as lightning flashes over the Yemeni sanctuary,

    From the direction of Najd—or the breeze.

    O [lightning?] of Najd, from the prayer-ground,

    You have stirred longing in the ailing one.

    جوف الليالي كذا عديم

    All slumber has flown from me;

    In the depths of the nights, I am thus bereft.

    And my longing has intensified, and indeed my soul

    Weeps for union, O boon companion.

    It weeps for a garden you see

    Glowing with light and standing upright.

    به النبي الطاهر الكريم

    In its precincts is the tomb of the best of messengers;

    Within it is the pure, noble Prophet,

    Muhammad, the most truthful of created beings,

    And their best, dwelling near it.

    حقاً هو السيد الرحيم

    He who addressed God—indeed, saw Him;

    Truly, he is the merciful master.

    He who ascended through the veils and the heavens,

    Then ascended His mighty throne.

    So, what a rank and glory!

    That neither the messengers nor God's interlocutor attained.

    His eye did not stray as Moses' did,

    Nor did his forbearing gaze overstep its bounds.

    Were it not for him, nothing would have existed,

    Nor immortality, nor bliss.

    أعظم به طبعه السليم

    And he surpassed them in bodily form and character;

    How great he is, with his sound nature!

    For he is the one who comes to creation's aid

    On the day of meeting—so [know this?], O discerning one.

    O master of creation, my plight has grown dire,

    By the Knower, the Creator, the All-Knowing.

    By the right of the Possessor of the Throne, O my beloved,

    Bring relief to your [destitute?] servant.

    فغث ودارك أَيا رحيم

    My plight has worsened, and my distress has increased;

    So give aid and come to my rescue, O merciful one.

    And in the dark nights, what ails me increases,

    In the depths of the pitch-black, lightless night.

    I sought him, a magnanimous master,

    Remover of my affliction, O dear friend.

    The Chosen One, encompassing all creatures,

    With grace and bounty embracing them all.

    لسوحه ذل الوسيم

    Far be it from him to deprive [the visitor?];

    Before his courts, the handsome one humbled himself.

    So, forgiveness of sin and concealment of fault,

    And you set affairs right, O exalted one.

    May blessings cover him, as numerous as pebbles,

    From our Lord, the generous Bestower,

    And the family and companions, with reproach [wording unclear],

    As long as the gentle east wind blows,

    Or Hashim al-Mirghani brings delight

    By praising them in verse that bows humbly.
