صلاة اللَه ما برق اليمان

يلوح على المشفع كل آن

God's blessings, as long as Yemen's lightning

flashes, be upon the accepted Intercessor at every moment,

وآل محسنون خيار قوم

لهم فخر وجاه ذو مكان

and upon his virtuous kin, the choicest people,

who possess glory and prestige of high standing.

ومدحهمُ من الديان حقاً

أتى في هل أتى ويرى عيان

And praise of them from the Requiter truly

came in 'Has There Come,' and is plainly seen.

وأصحاب أقاموا الدين طوعاً

وأردوا الملحدين بذي السنان

And upon companions who upheld the faith willingly

and felled the unbelievers with the spear.

بطه المصطفى نالوا ومنه

ذوو العرفان والقرب التدان

Through Taha, the Chosen One, and from him they attained—

those endowed with gnosis and closeness—intimate nearness.

نبي قد حباه اللَه عزاً

وفضلاً ليس أن يؤتاه ثاني

A prophet whom God has endowed with honor

and excellence granted to no other.

ثناه جاء في الذكر الحكيم

وخص وأعطى السبع المثان

His praise came in the Wise Remembrance;

he was singled out and given the seven oft-repeated verses.

فلولا أحمد ما كان شيء

ولا الفردوس والظلل الدوان

Were it not for Ahmad, nothing would exist,

nor Paradise and its low-hanging shades,

ولا ملك ولا رتب ورسل

ولا أعطى المليك علا وشان

nor any angel, nor ranks, nor messengers,

nor would the Sovereign grant eminence and honor.

ولا نال المنى شخص يرمه

ولا ظفر المجاهد بالامان

Nor would anyone attain the wishes he seeks,

nor would the striver win safety,

ولا سعد وتقريب وفوز

ولا محض الرضا وكذا أمان

nor would there be happiness, nearness, or triumph,

nor unalloyed favor, nor safety either.

وكلاً من مداه فهو يسقى

كقطب الوقت أو غوث الزمان

And each is given drink from his reach,

like the Pole of the age or the Succor of the time.

عليه من الهدى سربال عز

لغرة نوره ضاء العيان

Upon him is a robe of honor made of guidance;

through his light's radiance, vision shone.

فديتك مهجتي والنفس يا من

تملك خاطري حبا أران

I would ransom you with my heart's blood and my soul, O you

who possess my mind with love shown to me [reading uncertain].

وخامر مضغتي أبداً هواه

بعشق لا يزال وما ثنان

And his love forever permeates my heart's flesh,

with unceasing passion; nothing has turned me away.

وعاذلي مذ رأى وهناً رثى لي

ورق لي الوُشاة ومن رآن

And my reproacher, seeing my weakness, pitied me,

and the slanderers and whoever saw me felt compassion for me.

شكوت لما أصاب إهاب جسمي

وهجر أذاقني ضر الهوان

I complained of what afflicted my body's skin,

and of estrangement that made me taste humiliation's pain.

حليف ضنى بصد ثم بعد

وعند مضاجعي نومي جفان

A companion of wasting sickness, through rejection, then separation,

and on my beds, sleep has forsaken me.

متى ألقى الوصال صلاني هم

وضر مسنى قطعٌ فلان

When shall I find union? Sorrow has scorched me,

and hurt has touched me through so-and-so's severing of ties.

يزيل البؤس لي وجوا مسرعا

اله قد تنزه عن مكان

May He swiftly remove my misery and burning grief—

God, who is exalted beyond place—

ويوهب منحة فتحا وقربا

بحق المصطفى فخر الكيان

and bestow the gift of an opening and nearness,

for the sake of the Chosen One, the pride of existence,

وغفران الخطا فضلاً فاني

بوزري حالتي في ذي امتهان

and forgiveness of sins by grace, for I,

burdened by my sin, am in a state of abasement.

أرجو النوال ونداك سحا

وأرجو عفو رب ذي امتنان

I hope for bounty and your generosity pouring forth,

and I hope for the pardon of a Lord abounding in favor.

أجرني يا رسول اللَه إذ ما

من الا هو اهواء قد غوان

Grant me refuge, O Messenger of God, whenever

passions have indeed led me astray [opening phrase unclear].

بجودك لي كذا برضاك حقا

أنالُ الفوز في غرف الجنان

Through your generosity to me, and likewise your approval, truly

I attain triumph in the chambers of the Gardens.

محمدُ أشرف الثقلين مَن قد

تبوأ خير أخلاق حسان

Muhammad, noblest of humans and jinn, is he who

has attained the best of beautiful virtues.

وليلة ذي سَراه لذاتِ حجب

رأى الدَّيان جهراً بالعيان

And on the night of his journey to the veiled Essence,

he saw the Requiter openly, with his own eyes.

يكل الفهم عن أوصاف طه

وأعجزُ بل يراعي والبنان

Understanding falters before Taha's attributes,

and I am powerless—nay, my reed pen and fingertips too.

وحاز علا وفخراً لا يضاهي

وقولا صادقاً حسنِ البيان

He gained eminence and glory without equal,

and truthful speech, beautiful in expression.

عليه صلاة ربي كل وقت

وعترته وصحب كل آن

My Lord's blessings be upon him at every time,

and upon his kin and companions at every moment,

متى ما ناح قمري وليل

شَر برقَ فارق صب وآن

whenever a turtledove laments, and at night

lightning flashes; a lovesick, groaning lover parts [syntax unclear].

وهاشمُ ما ترنم أو تغني

وما ألهو بمحبوب شجان

and as long as Hashim chants or sings,

and as long as I delight in a beloved who saddens me.
