Freezing cold, with walls of stone.

Only one night remains for me to live,
And I feel that its darkness is my shrouds.

It will pass, Father; I have no doubt of
This, and afterward you will carry my corpse.

The night around me is a deadly stillness,
And memories churn within my inner being.

In a few verses of the Qur'an.

And my soul, within my ribs, is transparent;
Reverence crept into it and shook my whole being.

I have lived believing in God, yet never tasted
The delight of faith until now.

With which the jailer's fingers have toyed.

He has not appeared thirsty for aggression.

His family tastes the bitterness of deprivation.

If he were a poet like me, he would lament me;

An honorable girl, and stop disobeying me.

بَعْضُsome of الذيwhat يَجْريruns بِفِكْرٍthrough a mind عانِsuffering

Is part of what runs through a suffering mind.

بَيَدِby the hand of الْجُموعِthe masses شَريعةُthe law of القُرْصانِthe pirate
But if light triumphs, and torn apart
By the hands of the masses is the pirate's law,
فَلَسَوْفَthen surely will يَذْكُرُنيremember me وَيُكْبِرُand honor هِمَّتيmy resolve
مَنْwhoever كانَwas فيin بَلَديmy country حَليفَa companion of هَوانِhumiliation
Then I shall be remembered, and my resolve honored
By those in my land who were companions of humiliation.
وَإلىand until لِقاءٍa meeting تَحْتَbeneath ظِلِّthe shade of عَدالَةٍjustice
قُدْسِيَّةِsacred in الأَحْكامِjudgments والمِيزانِand the balance
And until we meet beneath the shade of justice,
Sacred in its judgments and its balance.
