صَدَّturned away عَنِّيfrom me إِذْwhen رآنيhe saw me مُفْتَتَنْinfatuated
صَدَّ عَنِّي إِذْ رآني مُفْتَتَنْ
وأَطالَand he prolonged الصَّبْرَpatient endurance لَمّأonce أَنْemphatic particle فَطَنْhe understood
وأَطالَ الصَّبْرَ لَمّأ أَنْ فَطَنْ
He turned away from me when he saw me infatuated,
And prolonged my patient waiting once he understood.
كانَhe was مَمْلوكيmy slave فأَضْحَىthen he became مَالِكِيmy master
كانَ مَمْلوكي فأَضْحَى مَالِكِي
إنّindeed هذاthis مِنْamong أعاجِيبِthe wonders الزَّمَنْtime
إنّ هذا مِنْ أعاجِيبِ الزَّمَنْ
He was my slave, then became my master;
Indeed, this is among the wonders of time.
