قدindeed قُلْتُI said لمَّاwhen ضَمّنوكِthey enclosed you in الثَّرىthe earth
قد قُلْتُ لمَّا ضَمّنوكِ الثَّرى
وَجالَتِand stirred الحَسْرَةُgrief فيin صَدْريmy breast
وَجالَتِ الحَسْرَةُ في صَدْري
I said, when they laid you in the earth,
I said, when they laid you in the grave
And grief stirred within my breast:
And grief swelled in my heart,
اذْهبْgo فَلاfor no واللهِby God لاnot سَرَّنيshall gladden me
اذْهبْ فَلا واللهِ لا سَرَّني
بَعْدَكِafter you شَيءٌanything آخِرَto the end of الدَّهْرِtime
بَعْدَكِ شَيءٌ آخِرَ الدَّهْرِ
Go; no, by God, never shall I be gladdened
“Go - by God, after you
By anything after you, to the end of time.
Nothing will ever gladden me again.”
