أهدى الحبيبُ مع الجنوب سلامَهُ

أهدى الحبيبُ مع الجنوب سلامَهُ

فاردُهْ عليهِ مِنَ الشِّمالِ سَلاما

فاردُهْ عليهِ مِنَ الشِّمالِ سَلاما

The beloved sent his greeting with the south wind.

The beloved sent his regards from the south

So send him a greeting in return with the north wind.

Return the regards to him from the north

واعْرِفْ بقلبِكَ ما تَضَمَّنَ قلبُهُ

واعْرِفْ بقلبِكَ ما تَضَمَّنَ قلبُهُ

وتداولا بهواكما الأياما

وتداولا بهواكما الأياما

And know with your heart what his heart holds,

Know in your heart what his harbors

And share the days in your mutual love.

And pass your days in the passion you share

فإذا بكيتَ له فأَيقِنْ أنَّه

فإذا بكيتَ له فأَيقِنْ أنَّه

سيُفيضُ منهُ للدموعِ سِجاما

سيُفيضُ منهُ للدموعِ سِجاما

So if you weep for him, be certain that

That when you cry for him, know

He will pour forth a stream of tears.

Tears will stream down his face

فاحبسْ دموعَكَ رحمةً بدموعِهِ

فاحبسْ دموعَكَ رحمةً بدموعِهِ

إن كنتَ تَحفظُ أو تَحوطُ ذماما

إن كنتَ تَحفظُ أو تَحوطُ ذماما

So hold back your tears out of compassion for his,

So withhold your tears in pity for his

If you honor or safeguard a bond of loyalty.

If you wish to spare or protect him
