ما الفَخْرُ أَنِّي إِمامُ الناسِ كُلِّهِمُ

ما الفَخْرُ أَنِّي إِمامُ الناسِ كُلِّهِمُ

فَخْري بِنَفْسي وآبائي من اللَّفَفِ

فَخْري بِنَفْسي وآبائي من اللَّفَفِ

Pride is not in my being the leader of all the people;

What pride that I'm the leader of all people,

My pride is in myself, and my forefathers are among the mixed multitude;

My pride is in myself, my fathers, not the masses,

والعَقْلُ والفَضْلُ في مَجْدي وفي نُطُقي

والعَقْلُ والفَضْلُ في مَجْدي وفي نُطُقي

وما تَكامَلَ في خُلْقي من الشَّرَفِ

وما تَكامَلَ في خُلْقي من الشَّرَفِ

And reason and virtue, in my glory and in my speech,

Reason and merit are my glory and my speech,

And the nobility perfected in my character.

What perfection my being's gained through nobility.
