النَفْسُthe soul تَطْمَعُcraves والأَسْبابُand the means عاجزةٌinadequate
النَفْسُ تَطْمَعُ والأَسْبابُ عاجزةٌ
والنَّفْسُand the soul تَهلِكُperishes بَيْنَbetween اليأَسِdespair والطَّمَعِand craving
والنَّفْسُ تَهلِكُ بَيْنَ اليأَسِ والطَّمَعِ
The soul craves, yet the means are inadequate.
The soul aspires while means fall short
And the soul perishes between despair and craving.
And the soul perishes between despair and hope.
