Ask Sadus, whose battalions were annihilated
The cavalry of Sadus that destroyed his legions,
By the thrusts of spears with shooting stars at their tips.
The spears in their heads like shooting stars,

If you have met no hardship at our hands, witness has indeed been borne
If you do not meet us in battle, your horsemen have witnessed
By your horsemen that I am girded with steadfastness.
That I stand fast with patience.

Woe to your mother at the gathering of our chiefs,
Woe to you from our chieftains gathered
In battalions like hills and rain pouring down.
In columns, pouring down like heavy rain.

Abu Uqayl, do not sacrifice your chiefs,
Abu Uqail, do not slaughter your chieftains,
For you are who you are, and fortune turns.
For you are you, and time keeps changing.

So if we survive, then we shall march against you
If we make peace, we will come for you
With every Indian sword whose edge bears grooves,
With every Indian sword in its sheath,

مِن كُلِّ ناحِيَةٍ لَيثٌ لَهُ حَسَبُ
And every sleek mare, like an arrow, flanked
And every bare-flanked mare, surrounded
On every side by a lion of honored ancestry.
On all sides by a lion with pedigree.

Do not think, O people, that we will let you escape,
Do not think, O people, that we will let you slip away
Or that you will flee when escape is beyond reach.
Or flee when flight becomes necessary.

No! By the Lord of the young she-camels dancing at midmorning,
No, by the Lord of the swaying anklets at dawn,
With which illustrious youths race when called upon.
Which spirited youths pursue when called upon.
