O Amr, son of Farrasha the mole-marked,

You severed the cords, though they were unbroken.

And you ruined your people after harmony—

the proud sons of Yashkur at al-Malham.

You ascribed your father to someone else,

And that is filial impiety, a sinful deed.

It suffices as a witness, toward al-Safa,

toward the pilgrimage gathering in its season.

Why, then, did you not strive for reconciliation with your friend,

as did the broken-toothed son of Mariya?

And Qays rescued Bakr of Iraq

and Taghlib from its greatest peril.

    وَذَلِكَ فِعلُ الفَتى الأَكرَمِ

    And he mended what they had ruined between them;

And that is the deed of the noblest young man.

And the house of Sharahil among Wa'il

holds the Pleiades' place among the stars.
