1. تُدِرُّ وَتَستَعوي لَنا كُلَّ كاشِحٍ

    وَمِن قَبلِها كُنّا نُسَمّيكَ عاصِما

    You toss about uneasily for us whenever a torrent rages,

    And before it we used to call you a protector.

  2. بِحَمدِ إِلَهي أَنَّني لَم أَكُن لَهُم

    غُرابَ شَمالٍ يَنتِفُ الرّيشَ حاتِما

    By the grace of my God I was not for them

    A northern raven plucking out feathers unceasingly.

  3. كَأَنَّ عَلَيهِ تاجَ آلِ مُحرِّقٍ

    بِأَن ضُرَّ مَولاهُ وَأَصبَحَ سالِما

    As if on him were a crown of the burning dynasty,

    Since his master was harmed and he became submissive.
