بَنِيَّ اِهتَدوا في ما اِهتَدَيتُ سَبيلَهُ

بَنِيَّ اِهتَدوا في ما اِهتَدَيتُ سَبيلَهُ

فَأَكرَمُ هَذا الناسَ مَن كانَ هادِيا

فَأَكرَمُ هَذا الناسَ مَن كانَ هادِيا

My sons, follow the path to which I was guided.

My children, be guided in what I was guided

For the noblest of these people is one who guides.

The most honorable of people is one who guides

عَنَيتُ زَماناً لَستُ أَعرِفُ ما الهُدى

عَنَيتُ زَماناً لَستُ أَعرِفُ ما الهُدى

وَقَد كانَ ذاكُم ضَلَّةً مِن ضَلالِيا

وَقَد كانَ ذاكُم ضَلَّةً مِن ضَلالِيا

I suffered for a time, not knowing what guidance was,

I was heedless for a time, not knowing what guidance was

And that was indeed an error among my errors.

And that was straying from my own straying

فَلَمّا أَرادَ اللَهُ رُشدي وَزُلفَتي

فَلَمّا أَرادَ اللَهُ رُشدي وَزُلفَتي

أَضاءَ سَبيلَ الحَقِّ لي وَهَدانِيا

أَضاءَ سَبيلَ الحَقِّ لي وَهَدانِيا

Then, when God willed my right guidance and nearness to Him,

But when God wanted to guide me and draw me near

He illuminated the path of truth for me and guided me.

He illuminated for me the path of truth and guided me

فَأَلقَيتُ عَنّي الغَيَّ لِلرُشدِ وَالهُدى

فَأَلقَيتُ عَنّي الغَيَّ لِلرُشدِ وَالهُدى

وَيَمَّمتُ نوراً لِلحَنيفَةِ بادِيا

وَيَمَّمتُ نوراً لِلحَنيفَةِ بادِيا

So I cast error away from me in favor of right judgment and guidance,

So I cast off error for guidance and righteousness

And turned toward a light of the upright faith, shining forth.

And set out towards the manifest Hanifiyya

وَصِرتُ إِلى عيسى بنُ مَريَمَ هادِيا

وَصِرتُ إِلى عيسى بنُ مَريَمَ هادِيا

رَشيداً فَسَمّاني المَسيحُ حَوارِيا

رَشيداً فَسَمّاني المَسيحُ حَوارِيا

And I came to Jesus, son of Mary, following the right path,

And I came to Jesus son of Mary as a guide

Rightly guided; and the Messiah called me a disciple.

Upright, so the Messiah called me a disciple

بَنِيَّ اِتَّقوا اللَهَ الَّذي هُوَ رَبُّكُم

بَنِيَّ اِتَّقوا اللَهَ الَّذي هُوَ رَبُّكُم

بَراكُم لَهُ فيما بَرا وَبَرانِيا

بَراكُم لَهُ فيما بَرا وَبَرانِيا

My sons, be mindful of God, who is your Lord.

My children, fear God who is your Lord

He created you for Himself among what He created, and created me,

Blessed you are through Him in what He blessed and guided me

لِنَعبُدَهُ سُبحانَهُ دونَ غَيرِهِ

لِنَعبُدَهُ سُبحانَهُ دونَ غَيرِهِ

لِنَستَدفِعَ البَلوى بِهِ وَالدَواهِيا

لِنَستَدفِعَ البَلوى بِهِ وَالدَواهِيا

That we might worship Him—glory be to Him—and no other,

That we may worship Him alone without any partners

That through Him we might ward off affliction and calamities,

To ward off trials through Him and calamities

وَنُؤمِنَ بِالإِنجيلِ وَالصُحُفِ الَّتي

وَنُؤمِنَ بِالإِنجيلِ وَالصُحُفِ الَّتي

بِها يَهتَدي مَن كانَ لِلوَحيِ تالِيا

بِها يَهتَدي مَن كانَ لِلوَحيِ تالِيا

And believe in the Gospel and the scriptures

And believe in the Gospel and the scriptures

Through which whoever recites revelation finds guidance.

Through which those who recite revelation are guided

بَنِيَّ صَحِبتُ الناسَ ثُمَّ خَبِرتُهُم

بَنِيَّ صَحِبتُ الناسَ ثُمَّ خَبِرتُهُم

فَأَفضُلُهُم أَلفَيتُ مَن كانَ واعِيا

فَأَفضُلُهُم أَلفَيتُ مَن كانَ واعِيا

My sons, I kept company with people, then came to know them;

My children, I accompanied people and then came to know them

And I found the best of them to be those who were discerning.

The best of them I found were the most aware

وَأَلفَيتُ أَسناهُم مَحَلّاً وَمَنصِباً

وَأَلفَيتُ أَسناهُم مَحَلّاً وَمَنصِباً

رَشيداً عَنِ الفَحشاءِ وَالإِفكِ ناِهِيا

رَشيداً عَنِ الفَحشاءِ وَالإِفكِ ناِهِيا

And I found the highest of them in standing and rank

And I found their elders of status and position

Rightly guided, forbidding indecency and falsehood.

Upright, forbidding indecency and slander

وَأَلفَيتُ أَوهاهُم لَدى كُلِّ أَمرَةٍ

وَأَلفَيتُ أَوهاهُم لَدى كُلِّ أَمرَةٍ

مُضِلّاً لِتَضلالِ العَشيرَةِ غاوِيا

مُضِلّاً لِتَضلالِ العَشيرَةِ غاوِيا

And I found the weakest of them in every position of command

And I found their fools with every chieftain

A misleader bent on misleading the clan, himself astray.

Misleading, making the clan go astray

بَنِيَّ اِحفَظوا لِلجارِ واجِبَ حَقِّهِ

بَنِيَّ اِحفَظوا لِلجارِ واجِبَ حَقِّهِ

وَلا تَسلِموا في النائِباتِ المَوالِيا

وَلا تَسلِموا في النائِباتِ المَوالِيا

My sons, preserve your neighbor's rightful due,

My children, safeguard the rights of your neighbor

And do not abandon allies amid calamities.

And do not fail in recurring kindnesses

وَشُبّوا عَلى فَرعِ اليَفاعَةِ نارَكُم

وَشُبّوا عَلى فَرعِ اليَفاعَةِ نارَكُم

لِيَأتيها الضَيفُ الَّذي باتَ سارِيا

لِيَأتيها الضَيفُ الَّذي باتَ سارِيا

And kindle your fire on the crest of the high ground,

And kindle the flames of hospitality

So the guest who spends the night traveling may come to it.

So the guest who arrives finds warmth

وَلا تَبدأوا بِالحَربِ مَن لَم يَكُن لَكُم

وَلا تَبدأوا بِالحَربِ مَن لَم يَكُن لَكُم

مِنَ الناسِ لِلعُدوانِ وَالظُلمِ بادِيا

مِنَ الناسِ لِلعُدوانِ وَالظُلمِ بادِيا

And do not begin war against anyone who has not, toward you,

And do not initiate war against those

Been the first among people to commit aggression and injustice.

Who have not been hostile and oppressive

وَمَهما اِزدَرَعتُم يابَنِيَّ فَإِنَّهُ

وَمَهما اِزدَرَعتُم يابَنِيَّ فَإِنَّهُ

سَيُحصَدُ يَوماً بَذرُ ما كانَ زاكِيا

سَيُحصَدُ يَوماً بَذرُ ما كانَ زاكِيا

And whatever you sow, my sons, surely

And whatever you sow, my children, it

The seed of what has flourished will one day be reaped.

Will reap one day what was planted wholesome
