وَهَل أَنا إلّا مهرةُ عربيّةٌ

وَهَل أَنا إلّا مهرةُ عربيّةٌ

سليلةُ أفراس تحلّلها بغلُ

سليلةُ أفراس تحلّلها بغلُ

And am I anything but a pure Arabian filly—

And am I anything but an Arabian filly,

A scion of noble steeds, lawfully covered by a mule?

Descended from steeds, whom a mule has taken as his mate?

فَإِن نَتجت مهراً كريماً فَبالحرا

فَإِن نَتجت مهراً كريماً فَبالحرا

وَإِن يكُ إقرافٌ فما أنجب الفحلُ

وَإِن يكُ إقرافٌ فما أنجب الفحلُ

If she foals a noble colt, that is only to be expected;

So if I bear a noble colt, that is only to be expected;

But if there is tainted breeding, the sire has begotten nothing noble.

And if the bloodline is tainted, the stallion has sired no noble offspring.
